Provision of Fellowship Schemes for Ph.D Sscholars

1.   Regular Ph.D Scholars

a)     GATE/NET qualified candidates from the date of admission are eligible for scholarship for the first 2 years of the Ph.D programme, as per MoE guidelines.

b)  Scholars at point (a) with two years of research experience are eligible to receive scholarship for the next 3 years, as SRF as per MoE guidelines, subject to recommendation of RPC.

c)     Candidates with M.Sc./M.A. degree without GATE/NET qualification may receive fellowship @ Rs.13,000/- for up to 5 years, as per institute norms.

d)     Candidates who fulfill the eligibility criteria of NIT Agartala and not qualified GATE/NET  at the time of admission are eligible for fellowship up to 5 years, @ 50% of the MoE fellowship.

2.     Self-Financed Category with GATE/NET Qualification: Existing Ph.D Scholars admitted under the self-financed category may be eligible for fellowship at MoE rates applicable if qualifies GATE within one year from the date of admission. The maximum duration of fellowship shall be considered 5 years from date of admission as per institute regulations and this category is discontinued from academic year 2026-27 admission batch onwards.

3.     Project Staff fellowship: Scholars who take admission under the project staff category may receive fellowship for a maximum of 3 years within the total Ph.D duration of 5 years following the project closure, as per institute or project regulations and subject to approval of the Competent Authority.

4.     Research Associate: Scholars who submit their provisional thesis before completion of 5 years may be considered as Research Associate until completion of 5 years or for 6 months, whichever is earlier, as per institute regulations, upon approval of the Competent Authority.

Provision of Scholarship Schemes for PG Students

1.     M.Tech Students (1st & 2nd Year):

a)     GATE qualified candidates admitted through CCMT are eligible for scholarship for duration of 2 years as per MoE guidelines.

b)     Candidates admitted under Non-CCMT category are eligible for scholarship for 2 years, @ 50% of the MoE scholarship.

2.     Dual Degree Programme (5th Year – BS-MS/BT-MT): Students who qualify GATE before the commencement of 5th year classes are eligible to receive scholarship for 1 year as per MoE guidelines.
